Agriculture VET Students Engaging with Industry Shows and Field Days

18/09/2023

BIRCHIP CROPPING GROUP (BCG)

Vocational Education and Training (VET) Agriculture students appreciated the warmer weather when they went to the BCG Main Field Day, just outside Birchip.

Students had a brief introduction and then went off in separate groups to learn more about broadacre cropping.

Some students were excited to meet Farmer Will and have a chat about his farming experience. Students also listened to a careers panel, which discussed career pathways in agriculture. Many students also started networking with other farmers and discussed their participation in the industry.

A key takeaway from the day was that there is no single way to get into careers in agriculture and to stay driven.

MELBOURNE ROYAL SHOW

Good luck to our steer Beau, who is to compete in the Melbourne Royal Carcass Competition. Beau will be exhibited by Brock (Year 9) at the show. Beau has been raised and broken in at Catherine McAuley College, with students learning about Cattle Husbandry and getting cattle show ready.

If Beau wins, he will be going on to Borthwick Competition.

Thanks to Phil Hogan from Wattledene Murray Greys for this opportunity.
