There’s been a lot happening in Agriculture recently, with Agriculture students gaining hands-on experience with the business of Agriculture, both at school and out and about.

Lowlines

Welcome back to our Lowline cattle after their agistment at Whitby Farm over the summer break. Students are excited to see our two new calves and are waiting patiently for Lu Lu to drop hers. Our Lowline cattle enable students to better understand the business of cattle showing and production.

Rochester Show

Students from Catherine McAuley College Bendigo attended the Rochester Show with their parents to participate in a Junior Handlers competition. This event was organised through Brodie Collins from Merridale Angus after seeing student engagement at the Bendigo Cattle Show in 2023. Well done to all participants and those that are continuing with showing for other breeders in 2024.

Victorian Merino Wether Challenge

The Victorian Merino Wether Challenge is being held for the first time in Victoria to educate secondary school students about the commercial production of Merino sheep. The initiatives provide the students with a memorable hands-on experience, covering a broad range of sheep and wool production skills. Holly Byrne, from Australian Wool Innovation and a past CMC student, visited Year 9 classes to start students’ education pathway for this challenge. Holly covered topics such as, wool fundamentals, markets, traceability, sheep welfare and the wool production line. Students are excited about this new opportunity and working with Holly.
