FROM OUR YEAR 10 CAPTAINS

Term 3 Review

Term 3 for Year 10s has been an extremely eventful and exciting term. Every week this term has been packed full of memorable experiences that will enrich our futures. From subject selection and work experience to Encounter Day, the experiences we have had the privilege of partaking in this term will help to shape the people we become as we near the next chapter of our school lives. On top of this, our cohort has achieved excellent success in both performing arts and countless sporting events – every participant should be extremely proud!

Camp

In Week 2, we had a 3-day camp in Melbourne where we visited the Melbourne Holocaust Museum, the Shrine of Remembrance, the Big Issue, and made our way around the city. The theme of the camp was ‘Compassion, Culture, and Careers’ and we were able to explore our interests in one of the activity groups: university, sport, trade, the arts, or beauty and hospitality. Some students visited museums or universities, while others learnt about the Richmond Football Club Korin Gamadji Institute. At the end of each day, we came together to have dinner in the city and explore Melbourne at night, as we searched to complete a scavenger hunt. On the train home, everyone was tired after long days of walking and activity, but so many of us left saying it was the best camp experience we have had! The opportunities we had to learn about future pathways, and to continue to build relationships with our peers and school staff were so valuable to everyone who went.

Encounter Day

Encounter Day in Week 5 was a wonderful opportunity to think deeply, create meaningful connections with peers and have fun! Students were divided into their houses for the day, and each group travelled by bus to a different location. Encounter Day focused on students’ holistic development while engaging us in our faith journey. Throughout the day students participated in many meaningful activities, including writing positive affirmations about peers, journaling about what we are grateful for, interactive games that focused on challenges people may face in life, delving deeper into our relationships and connections with others and much more. A pizza lunch supplied by the school was also a big hit! Encounter Day gave each and every student a deeper understanding and appreciation for our blessing and connections and brought us closer together as a community.

Work Experience

In the first week of September, we all had a week away from school to experience life in the workforce. Students chose to complete their work experience in a variety of occupations, including physiotherapy, plumbing, engineering, hospitality, dentistry, healthcare and so much more. During the week, teachers visited students and received excellent feedback about the students’ efforts. Through our work experiences, students began to understand the evolving nature of the workforce, the differences between various occupations and industries, and the skills and personal qualities required for success in both work and life. This experience has opened many students’ minds to the endless possibilities that await once they finish high school, and sparked interest for future career goals.
