SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION

Intermediate Girls Football

Game 1: CMCB vs Bendigo South East College

Conditions for the first game were tough, with heavy rain, strong winds, and one of the coldest days this winter. Despite this, the team started strongly. Tully Place broke through BSE’s defensive lines with some impressive marks and runs, while Jordi O’Bree was everywhere, finding plenty of the ball. In the first half, CMCB dominated play with unanswered goals from Macey Pinner, Hannah Guo, Alannah Prowse, Zara Mould, and Jordi O’Bree, keeping most of the action in CMCB’s forward half. The second half began with more rain, but the team maintained momentum as Lexie Fennell slotted a great goal from close range, which triggered big celebrations. Belle Mapperson was applying great pressure, laying multiple tackles which in turn led to additional goals to Jordi and Alannah as the girls sealed a fantastic first-up win.

Goal Kickers: Macey Pinner 2, Hannah Guo, Alannah Prowse 3, Zara Mould 2, Jordi O’Bree 2, Lexie Fennell
Best Players: Jordi O’Bree, Tully Place, Belle Mapperson, Macey Pinner, Alannah Prowse
Final Score: CMCB 11.5.71 def. BSE 2.2.14

Game 2: CMCB vs Marist College Bendigo

After a strong win against BSE, CMCB faced Marist in a tough game, with the winner to progress to the next stage of the competition. The girls however, got off to a slow start and trailed by eight points early in the match, then Macey Pinner put in a huge effort and managed to kick a crucial goal just before the halftime siren to close the gap to just two points.

Sophie Healy’s tackling in defence created multiple stoppages and turned the momentum. Belle Mapperson continued with her incredible work rate, chasing hard and creating space around the ball. Jordi O’Bree had another standout game as she constantly put her body on the line. The team’s defensive pressure was incredible, and the midfielders worked hard to support the forwards. With time ticking away and in slippery conditions, it was difficult for the girls to get clean possession as Marists’ pressure all over the ground was high. Despite a huge team effort, Marist were able to hold on, as the girls went down by just three points in a terrific match.

Goal Kickers: Macey Pinner, Alannah Prowse
Best Players: Zara Mould, Sophie Healy, Jordi O’Bree, Belle Mapperson, Macey Pinner
