SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION

Boys Netball

On Monday 2 June, the Junior Boys, Year 9 Boys and Year 10 Boys netball teams competed in the Sandhurst Intermediate Tournament at the Golden City. All teams demonstrated energy, enthusiasm and great sportsmanship to achieve excellent results. Two teams are now moving through to the next stage of the competition.

INTERMEDIATE A DIVISION

Year 10 Boys

The Year 10 Boys first game of the day saw a close first half against Bendigo South East College, however the boys managed to find their groove and pull away to score a 6-goal win. They then kept the momentum going in the second game to dominate play against Eaglehawk Secondary College to secure a 23-0 win.

The most exciting game of the day was when the Year 10 CMCB boys team faced the CMCB Year 9 boys, resulting in a closely fought game. There was plenty of ball-work up and down the court as both teams effected turnovers; however neither team was able to gain any significant control which ultimately saw the game end in a draw.

As a result, the next two games became important ones to win, and the need to continue to score highly against these teams became a focus. With the hope of winning the day, the boys went on to convincingly defeat Crusoe College as well as Weeroona College, and it was then a waiting game for the presentations. The Year 10 Boys team was eventually named as the winners of the day based on their percentage, and the Year 9 Boys team came second.

The Year 10 Boys conducted themselves beautifully all day and acted as positive role models for all the other Junior CMCB teams. They are now looking forward to competing at the Loddon Mallee Regional finals day on 22 July.

Year 9 Boys

Eager to test themselves at a higher level, the Year 9 Boys team requested to compete in the A Division, despite being bottom-age competitors. With determination and a positive mindset, they knew the day would bring strong competition, and that they were ready.

The boys came out firing in the opening match against Weeroona College, delivering a dominant 28–0 performance that set the tone for the day. The second match, against a more resilient Crusoe College, required greater composure and teamwork, but the team still emerged with a convincing 18–4 victory.

The third match proved to be the toughest, as they faced the skilled CMCB Year 10 team. The older side held the early advantage, but Year 9 boys showed grit and resilience to level the score by halftime. The second half was a back-and-forth battle; at one point, Year 9 led by two goals, but a late push from the Year 10s resulted in a draw.

A slightly flat start in the fourth match meant the team had to dig deep, but they held their composure, and this carried them through to a narrow win over Eaglehawk Secondary College. In the final game of the day, the boys delivered a statement performance. Knowing they needed a strong result, they rose to the occasion, defeating Bendigo South East with an emphatic 18–3 win.

The day ended with four wins and one draw, matching the Year 10 team’s result. The final standings came down to percentage. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough for the Year 9s to claim the trophy. Nonetheless, the team should be incredibly proud of their performance to come second. Competing in the top division against older teams, they demonstrated skill, heart, and maturity.

A huge thanks to Darcy Tyler and Tayte Frawley for helping out on the day. And to the team- a fantastic effort and an achievement to be proud of.

B Division

The courts were buzzing as CMCB’s Year Junior B boys took to the court for a thrilling netball tournament, going head-to-head against five strong teams. The boys displayed excellent teamwork, resilience, and school pride across all matches and the results speak for themselves!

In the opening match, CMCB took on Bendigo South East College and came away with a convincing 10–4 win, showcasing sharp passing, great communication, and calm finishing in the goal circle.

Next up, the boys faced Weeroona College in what turned out to be an absolute cracking game, as an 18-2 victory resulted. The defence was unbreakable, and the attackers moved the ball effortlessly down the court, turning opportunities into goals time and time again.

The third game was against the eventual tournament winners, Crusoe College – Team 1, and while our boys fought hard, the opposition proved too strong and the boys went down 10-2. However, despite the loss, the boys demonstrated admirable determination and fantastic grit throughout the game.

The boys then bounced back with confidence when they came up against Crusoe College – Team 2 and secured a strong 13 to 4 win. The players worked seamlessly together, and their on-court energy was a real highlight.

In the final game, the boys faced off against Eaglehawk Secondary College, and it seemed that they saved their best for last, as they stormed to an incredible 23-1 win! With accurate shooting, tight defence, and lightning-quick play, it was the perfect way to finish the tournament.

Overall, it was a fantastic day as all the boys played with determination, teamwork, and great sportsmanship in every game. Congratulations to all the players for their hard work and effort, and a huge thank you to the supporters who were there to cheer them on. Thank you to Mrs Pearce and Ms Speed for arranging the logistics, Miss Cullen for coaching the team and Ellie Munro for scoring and assisting on the day.
