Round 1 CMCB Vs Essendon Keilor Secondary College

CMCB Dominates in Impressive Win Over EKSC

In a commanding performance from start to finish, CMCB’s Senior football team delivered a dominant display to defeat Essendon Keilor Secondary College (EKSC) in round 1 of the coveted SSV Premier League Football Competition on Wednesday 7 May.

Playing on the stunning Finn Oval at Coolock, the match kicked off with explosive energy, after the much-anticipated jumper presentations to the first game players. Carter Reid set the tone early, kicking the first two goals within the opening minutes. Thomas Davie was outstanding in the ruck, giving the midfielders first use of the ball, while Jack Nuttall applied relentless pressure that disrupted EKSC’s ball movement and forced multiple turnovers. By quarter time, CMCB had established an early lead with a score of 4.3 (27) to 0.2 (2).

The momentum continued in the second quarter, with Carter Reid adding another goal and helping bring the other forwards into the game. Lenny McNamara found his rhythm in the midfield, winning clearances and delivering the ball cleanly to the forwards. Down back, Charlie Duke stood tall with composed intercept marks and effective rebounding play in cooperation with Hugh Behrens Ben Miller, Oliver Stewart and Harvey White. Rising star Tyce Griffin started to show flashes of brilliance, demonstrating his game-changing potential. At the half, CMCB had stretched the lead to 8.6 (54) to 3.4 (22).

Despite dominating possession and inside-50s in the third quarter, the boys struggled to convert chances into goals. Nevertheless, their control of the contest remained strong as Shannon Tardrew, Charlie King and Rylie Travaglia started to get plenty of the ball. Zane Connick took charge in defence with several intercept marks, and the entire backline consistently denied EKSC any easy scoring opportunities. Lenny McNamara continued to impress in the midfield, supported by intense pressure from Max Connick, Jimmy Mathews, Josh Kelly, Darby Whatley and Kobi MacDonald, forcing EKSC into numerous mistakes. By the end of the third term, CMCB had built a commanding 50-point lead.

The final quarter saw the CMCB team shift into another gear. They dominated across all lines, with Max Thompson putting on a midfield masterclass, winning clearances and launching attacking plays. Charlie Mortimer was also stamping his authority on the match as his possession count continued to increase. The boys added another six goals in the final term, as Llogan Mayman was finally rewarded for his continued efforts up forward. But the highlight of the match was a rare and well-celebrated goal by Zane Connick, which was the icing on the cake to seal an emphatic victory.

It was a complete team performance, and though there were highlights of individual brilliance at times, it was the collective team-first attitude on display that the coaching staff applauded the most.
