Year 8 Girls Netball
On Tuesday 13 May, our Year 8 Netball teams took to the Golden City Netball Courts to compete in the Sandhurst Division Netball Competition. With sunny conditions throughout the day, sunscreen had to be reapplied regularly to keep everyone protected. All team members played a pivotal role, with rolling substitutions used frequently to help maintain energy levels throughout the matches.
Year 8A
In division A, there were a total of 7 teams, meaning the girls were to play a full round robin, which was six games for the day.
The 8A team’s first game was against Crusoe College, and they hit the court full of enthusiasm.. This positive attitude saw them get off to a great start, as they came away with a good win 22-6. The next game was against Marist College Bendigo, and the momentum from Game 1 continued as they secured another comfortable win 28-4.
Game 3 was against Creek Street Christian College. In this game, the girls showed their versatility playing in a variety of positions and were still able to secure another dominant win 34-1. The game against Bendigo South East College was the girls’ most competitive for the day. Scores were close throughout the first half, however after the break, the team showed their strength in all positions as they outplayed their opposition in the second half to record another strong win 17-6.
The next game was against Weeroona College, and the depth of talent and skill in this team again came to the fore as they secured another convincing win 29-7. The girls’ final game was against Victory Christian College, and a few new combinations were tried on court to finish the day. Their dominance over the court continued, and once again came away with a great win 34-1.
After winning all their matches for the day, the girls had secured top spot and were announced as the Sandhurst Division A Champions.
Congratulations to the team on their outstanding performance and the excellent sportsmanship displayed throughout the entire day. A big thank you to Forest Jackson-Leahy and Mia Cox for their assistance on the day.

Year 8B
The Year 8B team did a terrific job at the Sandhurst tournament. Enjoying the warm sunny day, the team competed against Crusoe College (37-0), Bendigo South East College (26-5) and Victory Christina College (24-1) in the pool rounds. Their skill and teamwork led to impressive wins, securing a spot in the semi-final against Castlemaine Secondary College and then comfortably progressing to the grand final against East Loddon P-12 College.
The skills that had been on display all day were shown against some good quality opposition in the final, securing an early lead and keeping it throughout the game. Lily McKee, Thea Tobin and Molly Doherty were incredibly accurate in goals all day, and supported by Poppy Carter, Marlie Skinner, and April Wainwright in the midcourt. Our defenders Ruby Kelly, Milla Dalton and Ella Saunders made scoring extremely difficult for the opposition all day.
Finishing as B Grade premiers is a terrific effort for all the girls. Congratulations to the team for their outstanding performance, well-deserved victory and the excellent sportsmanship displayed by everyone throughout the entire day. Thank you to Indie Kramer, Layla Burn and Eva Grant for their help in different roles on the day.
Both teams would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Tarli Nihill and Elke Fletcher for taking on the umpiring roles. Without your support, the competition simply couldn’t have gone ahead. Your dedication and effort throughout the day were truly appreciated by all staff and students.
