Leadership Day at Sacred Heart College Kyneton

LEADERSHIP FROM THE HEART

On 19 April, the Catherine McAuley College Bendigo (CMCB) Student Representative Council (SRC) went to Sacred Heart College Kyneton to meet with the students from their SRC. When we arrived at Sacred Heart College (SHC), we were greeted with kindness, respect and hospitality.

Following this we met some of the leaders of SHC and their Principal, Dr Darren Egberts. Dr Egberts discussed various leaders in our schools, wider community and world. He shared excellent advice on how to be the best leaders we can be, using the inspiration of Catherine McAuley and following in her footsteps.

After his presentation we shared morning tea together, giving us the opportunity to mix with the SHC SRC. Next up was a reflection on Catherine McAuley and time to test our knowledge with a quiz to determine which school knew more about Catherine and their school community. In small groups, we spent time reflecting on the Mercy values and the outstanding leaders. We shared an amazing lunch in Sacred Heart’s cafeteria, giving us more time for the two schools to mingle. The Sacred Heart students also showed the CMCB students around their school. It was interesting to compare and contrast with our own.

Our smaller groups gathered again to talk about ideas and action plans at our respective schools, using this as an opportunity to build new friendships and gain new ideas prior to saying our goodbyes. It would be ideal to return the hospitality and host Sacred Heart College Kyneton later in the school year. This was a fantastic experience for our SRC, inspiring us to live out this year’s theme ‘In Mercy we serve’.
