2019 graduate Emily Brown honoured with YouThrive Victoria scholarship

21/02/2020

Congratulations to Emily Brown who was awarded a YouThrive Victoria scholarship at the recent Laureate Assembly, having graduated from Catherine McAuley College last year.

Speaking about the scholarship to the Bendigo Advertiser, Emily said “I just thought it was an opportunity and I love taking opportunities. What’s the worst that can happen? That I don’t get it? So, I put my hand up and went through the interview process.”

YouThrive Victoria provides a range of scholarships to support young people from regional and rural areas.

Emily was recognised after being part of the Student Representative Council at CMC and for her activities and leadership roles in the broader community. Emily has moved to Melbourne to start a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at the Box Hill Institute and is keeping her options open beyond that – she hopes to move into an early childhood education or an acting degree at the end of the diploma.

The YouThrive Scholarship will mentor her in extending her leadership roles. “It sounds like they give great support in terms of helping us get into what we want to do and come back and help with the community. I love children, so I was hoping I could do some work with children in areas of need in a rural community.”

We were delighted that Mr Brett Dunlop of YouThrive Victoria was able to attend the Laureate Presentation to congratulate Emily in person and speak about the aims of the $30,000 scholarship.
