CMCB dominated on a glorious day of footy!

The Sandhurst Senior Girls Football Competition kicked off in spectacular fashion on Wednesday 14 May at the Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct O’Keefe Oval. With perfect weather setting the stage for a brilliant day of footy, the girls were keen to take to the field. On paper, the girls looked like an extremely talented playing group, only time would tell if this was actually the case. The team were excited to get things started, and the pre-match addresses well and truly matched that excitement.

Game 1 – CMCB vs Bendigo Senior Secondary College
CMCB wasted no time asserting dominance in their opening clash against Bendigo Senior. The girls came out firing, winning the ball from the first bounce and effortlessly booting two goals in under a minute to set the tone. The first half proved to be a masterclass in pressure and precision, with the girls piling on 7 goals to Senior’s 1, leaving Senior stunned.

The ball movement was first class, as the likes of Alysha Boyd, Amelia Haigh, Ava Franklin and Caitlyn Kelly worked hard to win the contested ball. The skill of winning these stoppages enabled the team to set up many attacking plays.

Although the second half saw some inaccuracy in front of goal, CMCB’s control of the game never wavered. The team scored another 3 goals and limited Bendigo Senior to just 1 goal. It was a fantastic start to their 2025 campaign.

Final score: CMCB 10.7 (67) def. Bendigo Senior 2.4 (16)

Goal Scorers: Lacey Nihill 5, Ryah Mackie 2, Tessa Skipper 2, Ava Franklin 1

Game 2 – CMCB vs Marist College Bendigo
Game 2 loomed as a tougher test against Marist, but the CMCB girls had other plans. In what can only be described as a tsunami of goals, the team unleashed a scoring frenzy early, while keeping Marist to a mere two behinds in the first half. Ava Bibby, Olivia Nihill, Neve Pinner and Scarlett Ward were unstoppable, leaving Marist with no answers to their elite skills.

The second half continued in the same vein, with CMCB adding another 7 goals 3 and locking down in defence to keep Marist scoreless. It was a clinical, all-round team performance that showcased the depth and discipline of this exceptional side.

Final score: CMCB 13.11 (89) def. Marist 0.2 (2)

Goal Scorers: Ava Bibby 4, Neve Pinner 2, Tessa Skipper 1, Lucy Trewick 1, Lacey Nihill 1, Ava Franklin 1, Amelie Haigh 1, Tess Mills 1, Ryah Mackie 1

Congratulations to all players on a stellar day of football, representing CMCB with pride, passion, and professionalism. Bring on the next round!
