Inter-house Chess

“Checkmate”

Inter-house Chess is alive and well at Coolock and St Mary’s with a large number of students strongly contesting the preliminary rounds.

Chess is a fantastic educational tool, as it helps train students’ brains to be able to forecast, predict and strategise many moves ahead. Chess has been shown to improve students’ capacities in a range of areas, including reading and writing, not just in mathematics and problem solving.

The competition has heated up through the end of Term 1, with the finals to take place midway through next term.

We now turn up the heat on the remaining participants, as they enter the finals of the competition. The further they progress, the more points they gain for their respective Houses, in an effort to lead their House to victory and become an Inaugural CMC Chess Grandmaster.

We wish all of the student the best of luck.
