The senior years at Catherine McAuley College are geared toward students being responsible for their own learning and pathway. Students enjoy expert teaching in preparation for entry into a range of tertiary institutions, apprenticeships and the workplace. During these years, students are encouraged to explore their talents and interests academically, culturally and as part of the local and global community.

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)

Our College offers a wide range of VCE subjects and we celebrate strong student achievement and personal growth. Students typically undertake VCE in Year 11 and 12, however we have a number of Year 10 students accelerate to undertake the challenge and learning of VCE. Our staff are committed to encouraging your sons and daughters to achieve their personal best and we look forward to working through this part of their learning journey with you.

Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)

VCAL at Catherine McAuley College seeks to educate the whole person through an Applied Learning Framework, which takes into account the students personal strengths, interest, goals and experiences. Within the VCAL program we aim to foster the relationship between industry and education, with an emphasis on what is being taught in the ‘real world’ outside of the school – making connections that are meaningful and relevant. We do this by providing authentic, valuable and hands on experiences targeted at learning specific industry skills and by gaining industry qualifications within our Vocational Education and Training (VET) program.

Catherine McAuley Colleges Applied Learning Program is purposefully developed from Years 10 – 12. At Year 10, students engage in a Foundation Program working towards Intermediate at Year 11 and Senior at Year 12.

VCAL levels are flexible, allowing students to progress at their own pace. At each level the VCAL Applied Learning program incorporates;

  • Personal Development
  • Numeracy
  • Work Related Skills,
  • Literacy,
  • Industry Project – (streamed)
  • VET

Students are streamed into either trade or services depended on their VET choices.

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

VCE/VCAL VET programs are vocational studies approved by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) as appropriate for senior secondary school students.VET programs lead to nationally recognised qualifications, thereby offering students the opportunity to gain VCE or VCAL certificate and a nationally accredited vocational education and training certificate upon completion of their secondary studies.

VET programs are fully recognised within both our senior pathways, VCE/VCAL, and contribute towards the satisfactory completion of VCE with weight equal to traditional VCE subjects. Only Units 3/4 contribute towards VCE study score and not all VET studies have an attached score towards the ATAR.
