Laureate Assembly honours outstanding students

19/02/2018

Outstanding academic achievements of our 2017 VCE students were celebrated at the Laureate Assembly in the presence of the entire student body, staff, families and special guests.

Subject Dux awards, College Dux, the Bishop Noel Daly Memorial Award and a number of special achievements were announced.

It was a pleasure to welcome Kate Tehan as guest speaker. Kate is an author and educator as well as an alumna of our College, including school captain and dux in 2006. In her speech, she encouraged students to “find what you like to do and do it” and shared her experience that “the harder you work the luckier you get”.

The College Dux Jessica McCarthy was equally inspiring, speaking about the privilege of going to school in this College, in this country.

Representing Mercy Education, we were also delighted to hear the insights of Sr Sylvia Williams, who was also able to offer unique insights as a past Principal of our College.

Special mention was made of four graduate students who, over the six years as they progressed from Year 7 through to Year 12, received an academic award each year – Teagan Clarke, Lillian Maher, Jessica McCarthy and Imogen Sexton. Dedication to their goals and learning over the six years has proven to have a direct impact on their results, with all students achieving outstanding ATAR scores.
